just a stab in the dark: but it's not UDMA 66 or 33 or
whatever is it? Maybe try disabling all that crap in
the bios and just try plain IDE (or EIDE).
Also I don't like logical and extended partitions, I just
use primary partitions. It limits you to 4 per disk but
I'm paranoid.
