What is a linux application?
I find that more and more there are no linux applications, just
unix (for want of a better word) ones that run on linux.

How about this:
"Linux kernel is no more than a collection of device drivers".
Debian stands out in that it doesn't just use the Linux kernel,
there is a freebsd version.
So whats the difference a home user would see between debian
with the Linux kernel and debian with the freebsd kernel?
Bugger all, perhaps?
Both debian versions would have the same apps, the same package
management system, the same shell, the same c compiler, the
same window manager, etc, etc.
So how important is the Linux Kernel to the Debian distribution?
Debian still works without Linux. Its still Debian.
