I love these questions.
My opinion (FWIW) is that a nerd is the classic 'Revenge of the Nerds'
stereotype. Socially backward, unconcerned with own appearance and so
on. Perhaps deals with one minuscle facet of a system or something. Like
thermal expansion of the CMOS chip on a motherboard over time and
they'll spend *weeks* fussing over it.
A geek on the otherhand os more 'normalised'. Not socially backward -
quite the opposite, not as concerned with own appearance but more
clothing concious (vendorware :), general hacker mentality. Knowledge
hungry and either knows a lot about a lot, or is at least knowledgeable
in many technical aspects. That's why if you ask *any* question on SLUG
you'll get lotsa answers from lotsa people :)
There are various other thingss out there described as differences and
there have been studies and many articles done on it. Slashdot has a few
if you can find them.
Cheers,
Graeme
