Could be a bit of overkill depending on what you want to do, but
personally I think that Broadcast 2000
<http://heroine.linuxave.net/bcast2000.html> is the best GPLed sound
recorder/editor (also video - don't let that put you off though, you can
just use the sound stuff) for Linux. Got a fairly nice GUI, is available
as source or a binary (no RPM though).
