O-kay, if you're sure. I'll give it a try. But terminfo says:
keypad_local rmkx ke leave 'key�
board_transmit' mode
keypad_xmit smkx ks enter 'key�
board_transmit' mode
And I'm talking about the arrow keys on the main keyboard, not the ones
on the numeric keypad. These sound like the NumLock on/off sequences
to me. Are you sure?

Anyone know what the capability is for running in a separate buffer -
you know, so that when you exit the visual mode the text that was in
the xterm window is restored.
