I don't know, could be cool. MS cited this kind of technology - they call it
"install-on-demand" - as one of the main updates to Office 2000.
Conceptually, only retrieving components as you need them could work well if
it's transparent, and you have a very fast & reliable net link, and can rely
on the machines with the software you want to be able to service your
request. Granted, that's a lot of conditions, but it has some nice
advantages: You use less disk space, it makes life much easier for newbies,
and if you restrict which users can run the tool it may even prevent some
exploits of publicised security issues by never having the vulnerable
package installed unless it is actually used.
