Trevor, As a teacher myself and a technology coordinator it is refreshing to see someone taking the plunge. No such opportunities at my school where we have about 80 macs to a dozen or so PC's. My classromm PC dual boots and that's it. > I don't know enough about the various distributions apart from RH to decide? If your already a RH user then I think you would find Mandrake 7.1 a joy. It defaulskdeto KDE which i prefer and your kids might find the transision easier as things will look more familiar to them. > 1) For an education envt (High school) is there a distro that is "Better" or > to be preferred. > > 2) Should Linux reside within it's own partition or as I believe some > distros can 'live' in a folder within windows. dual booting gives better performance and stability and if your trying to show people something new then this is what to aim for. Now that some of the more mainstream suppliers are in the rollout they might be better bet regarding performance, drivers etc. Just a thought HTH Grant -- SLUG - Sydney Linux User Group Mailing List - http://slug.org.au/ More Info: http://slug.org.au/lists/listinfo/slug
