Extra-quick summary
We had about 40-50 helpers/installers, we installed/configured about 100
machines, had about 40 machines left over that we couldn't get to, had 3-400
people in attendance, 6 well-attended talks, 4 booths, 5 demo machines,
including a dual PIII550 server with 512Mb RAM and a 72Gb RAID5, a 100Mbps
link to the internet, a shortage of power and desk space, and a lot of fun.
Quick advice: Get lots of power and desk space-a-plenty, have about 3 white
boards, one for notices, one for problems needing resolving, and one for
other stuff, bring lots of masking tape, and plenty of pens, pencils and
textas, make sure you have your entry/exit procedures sorted out early and
streamlined, make sure that every installer has a sheet of paper reminding
them of important things to do and important bits of info (where to get boot
floppies, CDs, etc), make sure that every job that needs doing also has a
piece of paper summarising what the person is supposed to be doing, and how
to go about it, and what the important things are, LABEL EVERYTHING, get a
queueing system for people who are waiting (each for their own doesn't work
too well), have a PA, or two -- one for talks as well... More advice and
summary stuff to come...
