Well Pine handles HTML quite well and you can easily pipe the message into
w3m or some other viewer. DOC is annoying but there is either hitting the
delete key or piping the file to strings.

I would disagree with that analogy. More appropriate are the messages
placed on packets of Cigarettes that say "Smoking Kills". They do not force
you to stop smoking, but they do remind you of the possible results of
your actions. Of course once you start with analogies there is always
something wrong with them and you end up going around in circles.
