samba as a pdc. smb passwds in /etc/samba/smbpasswd. unix passwds in nis.
samba using a custom script to do nis and smb password changing (by
messing with the nis files directly - messy. could be done better).
unix using pam modules to do both nis and smb changing.
pam_nis and pam_smb both had to be hacked a bit before they worked.
(and rudolph <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> did all the hard work, so ask him ;)
and you can't use pam_cracklib for windows passwords, since samba
doesn't get a chance to say no. just run a cron script that cracks
passwords, and then you go and beat the managing director for using
his login as his password.
if i was to do it again, i'd definately do it with ldap and a cgi-script.
