I have a client with a GA 586 DX, they parked the machine from its role as an
NT server because of all sorts of inexplicable problems -they asked me to
setup linux on it and I had similar probs - cpu 's not sync - stack errors on
cpu0 - drive contoller probs etc....
..... in BIOS FEATUER SETUP found MP spec Single CPU enabled
This fools OS into thinking there are 2 CPUs when there is only one. Good
trick if you only have one but MUST BE DISABLED when you add a second CPU
else OS gets
confused.
Machine works fine, fileserver for 18 months now - explained to customer
"there are
some things M$ is incapable of.
Only problem since that was board still won't handle over 8.4 Gb Drives and
gigabyte while posting patch for single cpu board have neglected to make
similar patch avail for dual.
Good luck
