Simon Rumble had a similar experience a while back, which was covered in KC
SLUG Pearls. Forget which issue. :) You should be able to find it in the
contents easily - the question was raised in one issue, and answered in a
followup.

I had a similar thing happen, although I couldn't attribute it to Windows,
only complete stupidity on my part. Play careful with hdparm! :)

I believe the utility I used was findsuper, and thankfully it worked. Hope
you have similar luck.
