  You're using kernel 2.2.

   You're using a 3com NIC.

    You're using it on a heavily loaded network.

     The network is running at 10 mbit/sec.

      The network is half-duplex.

       The network is hubbed.

        You're about to upgrade your 3c59x.c driver to
         http://www.uow.edu.au/~andrewm/linux/3c59x-2.2.17-pre18

Seriously, this is a known and recurring problem.  It the latest version of the 2.2 
driver doesn't nail it then something's probably wrong with your network gear.

If you're running a Cardbus NIC then you'll need to grab David's current beta driver.
