several options:
the EQL stuff in the kernel
grab a newer pppd, which does some balancing stuff (in user space,
i believe it will still work with a 2.2 kernel)
just run 2 ppp connections and turn on "equal cost multipath" kernel option
(simple round-robin on equal cost routes - won't be as efficient as it
could be)
turn on the traffic control options and do full QoS: pinging across
the lines, and spreading the load appropriately.
all options should cope with one link dying, possibly with a little
disturbance while the new routes get sorted out
i've done the 2nd last one (with a 2.2 kernel) and it works ok, tho
you have to mess around a bit. check out "iproute2" (debian package:
iproute) and the "2.4 {routing, network} howto"s. just ignore the fact
it says "2.4" ;)
