Thanks to all who have been assisting me. Ths
current state of things: I have replaced the internal 14400 modem I
was using with an external 56K and enabled the I/O port in BIOS and can dial
out.
I tried the
default
option in diald.conf and get an "unrecognised
option" in the log file. If I modify this to
defaultroute
I get connected for about 30 seconds and then
"modem got hung up on" in the log file. Diald stays running but I can't
bring the link up again - Possibly my misunderstanding of the dctrl - and I
can't kill the process.
Yes I read in the man pages that defaultroute
conflicts with diald
I get a route to sl0 but if I try to
type
route add default dev ppp0
on the command line while
the link is still actve I get something to the effect of device not
available - can't find exact message at the moment.
Thank you for your patience and
assistance
