I'd say the app wasn't developed for linux then.
adm is for admin I think, mainly for log files, but
also other files that would be of interest to the
administer.
I seem to remember /var/adm being a symlink to /var/log
on some older linux distributions, it doesn't seem to
be there now.

CDs belong in /dev/cdrom, or when not in use, /dev/shelf.
