As someone who is not really a newbie but still has a lot to learn I'll just
add my two
cents worth.
the answer is not about new lists or any other solution. It's about one
simple protocol
'Respect'
when I first started using Linux this list was my best friend. I asked lots
of 'foolish'
(to coin a recent phrase) questions and was never flamed once and always got
great
advice.

I have to agree with you. However I disagree with what you go on to say.
This list remains a valuable resource to me. The flames are merely an aside.
I still try to give and receive help when I can. Most of it probably wastes
peoples time as much as a good flame, but that is the nature of a mailing
list.
Please people, its a community. A colourful community. Despite all the rants
about being on topic, or being nice and sweet to each other, we are all
people. Like it or not this list is a gathering of people. Expect them to
treat each other as such.
I don't really need to name names, but i really value the contribution that
most people on this list give. The bits I don't want to hear get
periodically deleted along with the bits I did. The web archive is hence and
important resource.
Lets get back to doing our jobs eh? and accept people for what they are.
Perhaps some forgiveness all round may help :-)
Dave
