Hrm... I think people's main gripe with Linuxconf is that it's about as
breaky as it is easy. I'll have a tiny, little go at RedHat for a minute
here, as I think Linuxconf was invented to deal with /etc/sysconfig and all
its annoyances!

Linuxconf is also very light on the explanations, and I've seen more than
one totally shafted installation because of it. So, my gripe is with the
tool itself, not with the idea that you can provide a good GUI configuration
manager.

Which brings me to my next point... Helix Code's Red Carpet installer
(next in line from their current installer, which I hear is quite okay - I
wouldn't know because my OS does all of that silly stuff for me) is going to
make all of the pain go away for package management, giving distributions
and software-groups "channels" that you can manage. I posted a link to some
screenshots a few weeks back.

Also, their Setup Tools (haven't heard if that has a fancy name yet) will do
everything Linuxconf does (tho maybe not initially), better, and more
modularly. So, all you linux-elitists can stick your head in the oven whilst
new users have a good, friendly tool to work with.

Did I mention they supported almost every distribution, and even... Solaris?
Mmm... GNOME.
