Microsoft invests in Corel

This year, Corel has seen the loss of its CEO and mass staff sackings in a
bid to return to profitability. However, today the company announced that
Microsoft would be investing $US135 million in it. Microsoft is buying 24
million nonvoting shares at $US5.62. In return, Corel will work on
developing its software in line with Microsoft's .Net strategy for moving
applications online. The deal effectively marks the end of Corel's push
into the desktop suite market.
