If in Debian, do
update-rc.d -f xdm remove
To get rid of the beast. Otherwise just find it and rename it rm it
Then run startx, which will probably go to enlightenment.
For more flexibility, start X by
startx wmaker
Once WindowMaker has configured its menus, you can go to whatever window
manager you like, and save your session there.
No-one needs *dm
