which begs the question, what did they do to bolt metadata onto the
freebsd core for OSX ??
if you have installed netatalk for appleshare you will notice that it
creates a hidden directory (ie .appledouble) in each directory of the file
server you access from a mac, which is where it stores the metadata,
though it has to guess intially (much as windows does) what the file type
is from the file extension...
