i use it and it works fine. i think its just that LDAP is getting all
the hype these days.

NIS is still *much* faster than ldap (but i spose if you can get nscd
to not lock up your machine, it doesn't really become an issue)

i really like LDAP's ability to add arbitrary attributes, rather than
trying to cram everything into a GECOS fields.

/etc/netgroup is a horrid syntax. you can't break lines, etc, but i
suppose there's no reason you can't use something else to build your
NIS maps.
