Yep. I found on my old 486 that fvwm 1.0 ran fine using 8bit
color and a plain solid background. Simpler to configure
than fvwm 2 or fvwm95. It gives you a launch panel, multiple
desktops, pager and icons - all you will ever need.
Afterstep, E and Gnome etc will be far too slow. Ditch twm
totally.
