I have found out that there is a third party route which is between the 2
sites and I think it's what they call the focal point of the routers and
everything is passing through it.. Problem is, that third router has got a
heap of traffic going through it I'm pretty sure.
Oh well, there nothing much I can do now as the customer hasn't signed the
agreement contract anyway so noone can touch the set up for now..

This may be the problem, George. Perhaps you have a circular route or some
other routing problem? The latency should be much lower that that.
Check default gateways and static routes at any routing nodes.
