It is having an indirect effect, however. Since the cut cable cuts off
one of the major internet routes to places far away, Telstra has been
rerouting the traffic via other parts of their network. This has led to
those parts becoming saturated and a general slowdown for everybody.
In particular, the Telstra <-> Optus gateway(s) yesterday had
particularly spotty performance (if you got through at all, you may
still have been losing 80 - 90% of the packets).
