i could setup sendmail... i just havent done this before ??
if you have and example i can give it a go.....
Yes it does happen... this is a small site and does not get much traffic....
The emails are also short... problebly a page of text.....
i have done some testing and i can send a 2meg email no probs and other
times it rejects...
i have also sent and received and browsed at the same time and tested with
the proxy turned off as well
so that only email system was working....
i can telnet to the linux box and stay connected all day without a drop
out....
i hope this gives you more info...

thanks for the graph, just wanted to be clear on the structure.
Is it possible that the modem is congested? A modem can get flooded quite
easily with just 1 email sent..
Is it happening even when the modem is idle?
Worst case scenario, you could setup sendmail on the linux box to handle the
email and pass it into the windows box.?
thanks,

<----> static ip
(default gateway -> 192.168.100.1) Default Gateway ppp mx
records to static
the system is actually working just that 50% of the mail does not come in ??

ppp0 port on which machine though?
What I'm trying to ask is basically "Is the path which all data is coming
and going the same" or is outgoing going through a different route?
So is the web machine on the LAN have a default gateway to the linux box LAN
IP?
Can you give me a sample line graph of a network path eg.
www 192.168.0.1 --------------192.168.0.254 gateway 203.22.107.70 --------->
internet
etc.etc.

try adding this before all the rules..
/sbin/ipchains -M -S 7200 10 160
Also, is the 192.168.100.1 the default gateway?

My problem is that i keep getting errors from users sending mail to my
exchange server, about 50% fail with this message.....
------Transcript of session follows -------
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
Remote connection was abruptly disconnected.
the line seems to be fine it does not disconnect.. telnet to the box from
outside works fine no drop outs, if i connect with pcanywhere to the
exchange box i keep getting timeouts (i do portfw on the approprite
pcanywhere ports)...
i think the problem is with the ipmasqadm portfw routine.... as the ipchains
section seems to work without a hicup.....
please HELP!!!!!!
Thanks Geoff Gauci
