I run a multi boot system with 2 HDs - the racked removeable kind. My
configuration is a little different from what you are trying, but maybe
it'll help. I use RH6.x and both HDs are masters (slaves being CD and
Zip) and an Intel box.
First, change your thinking. You want to go to Windows if you really
need it; otherwise, default into Linux - you'll feel a lot better and
the system will work better too.
Get the HD with Windows up and going by itself with the other HD turned
off. You want it to be able to run by itself as if you only had one HD.
When you're happy with it, make it the secondary HD and turn it on. Now
install Linux on the primary HD - RH called it hda(x). During the
partitioning phase, Linux will see the DOS/FAT drive - RH called it
hdc(x) - leave it be and continue with your install. After that, when
prompted, I installed LILO and opted for 'linux' to be the default start
with 'dos' as the option. Finish the install.
At the LILO prompt on startup, if you do nothing, it will load 'linux'.
If you type 'dos', it loads Windows. You initially have 5 seconds to
make a decision. This is alterable in the lilo configuration file.
ONE LAST TRICK. If you had a dual boot system on one partioned HD, you
would be done (all of this is reasonably well covered in the APC
Magazine Linux Pocketbook). However, since you have 2 HDs, you have to
map hdc so LILO finds it. This is also done by altering the lilo
configuration file. I've got the specific one I use, if you need it, but
it's for RH.
Further, this scenario is for FAT Windows only. NTFS is another ball
game.
I haven't used the Corel distro, so other folks may know more specific
stuff to help you.
NB: With a creative combination of racked HDs and partioning, you can
get more than just a dual boot system.
NB: One of these days I should learn the Mac - fondly I remember my
Apple II+. I'm in the graphics arts/printing industry and they are the
standard for artwork, but the hardware and software is proprietary and
expensive.
Good Luck.
Richard
