Tickets for linux.conf.au (in Sydney, January 17-20 2001) are selling
fast. We can only accomodate around 200 people for the dinner so if
you're intending to come to the conference (it's worth it!) please
register as soon as you can. John 'maddog' Hall of Linux International
is talking at the dinner and he is a very entertaining speaker.

Registration details at: http://linux.conf.au/register/

Also, all ticket prices are going up $50 on the first of January so
please register now to get the current pricing ($99 for students, $250
for hobbyists [which includes all SLUGgers, if your boss isn't sending
you:) ], and $540 for the corporate rate). All these prices include
four full days of conference sessions, including all workshops,
tutorials, paper presentations and keynote talks. [*]

Check out http://linux.conf.au/schedule/ for a peek at the schedule
that is lined up, and http://linux.conf.au/papers/ for some more detail
about the topics being presented. As you can see there are a large
number of excellent Linux developers attending from all corners of
the world including some of the best kernel, networking, graphics
and desktop hackers around, including:

        Alan Cox (England): kernel guru
Dave Miller (USA): kernel networking guru
Tridge (Oz): local legend, creator of samba
Rik van Riel (NL, in Brazil): kernel memory management guru
Richard Gooch (Oz, in Canada): the man who brought you devfs
Rusty (Oz): netfilter, ipchains, iptables, random hacking
Horms (Oz, in USA): distributed content & high availability
Rasterman (Oz, in USA): Enlightenment, h/w accelerated X11
Raph Levien (USA): Graphics, GDK; creator of Advogato
        John Ryland (Oz): Qt/Embedded
Manish Singh (USA): Gimp legend, aka "yosh"
Wichert Akkerman (Netherlands): Debian project leader
Stephane Eranian (USA): IA64 Linux hacker
Anton Blanchard (Oz): got Linux running on the Sun E10k !
Andrew Morton (Oz): Low Latency Linux (for fast audio, yay!)
Jeff Dike (USA): User mode Linux (run Linux on Linux!)

and that's just to whet your appetite -- there's about 50 different topics
and tutorials on offer, so make sure you check it out as there's bound
to be _something_ (or, lots of things!) that interest you.

Well, I'm obviously getting excited about this because I wrote more
than I intended just now :) I wanted to mail this out before everyone
goes away on holidays for the next couple of weeks. Remember to send in
your registration now, take the 17th-20th of January off work and bring
your beachproof laptop and sunscreen :)

[*] online registration not yet available, we'll let you know when it
is. Bulk discounts are available: 10% off the total price for groups of
10 or more people.
