This could be because the version of Mandrake 7.2 with the
pocketbook seems to be a pre-release snapshot, maybe a late version
of Beta 3 just before it was finalised:

Linux-Mandrake Download Edition Odyssey-i586 20001024 20:32

(Check the date) Mandrake 7.2 wasn't officially released until the
30th. Though admittedly not recognising a PS/2 mouse is pretty
weird. It must be Microsofts fault, obviously. :-)
