Hi,
I downloaded Netscape 6 and all went well until the final step.

I downloaded the netscape-i686-ps-linux-gnu-installer.tar.gz archive and
opened it via

tar -zxvf [....] and then ran the Netscape6 Installer via GUI.

The download instructions state

"4) Follow on-screen instructions.

 5) To start Netscape, change to the directory where you installed it and
run the program

        ./ netscape"

When I cd /usr/local/netscape and run ./ netscape ... nothing happens.

What I think may be happening is a conflict between N4.73 and N6.00.

When I tried to run Netscape after the download by clicking on the icon I
received a message from N4.73 along the lines that "Netscape has recognised
another version of the program is trying to load and has implemented
netscape/lock. Please find this file and delete it before proceeding
further."

Implementing

find / -name lock

produces a number of spool and var files and the message

find: /proc/6/fd: permission denied

which might relate to N6.0

At the moment all I can think of is going out to buy the latest version of
APC which has a linux version of N6 on CD - and hoping it will overwrite
the 'lock' file.

Any ideas ?

Adam Bogacki.
