Hello Everybody
I have just joined this mailing list and I have a
problem that I hope somebody can help me with.
I decided to try Mandrake Linux 7.2 on my new
pc for the first time, (Yes I am a Linux newbie) and after I installed it I
found I couldn't boot to DOS or Windows 98. I have Windows 98 and Windows
2000 each using up ~8G on the hard drive. I installed linux on the
remaining 4G. Now when I boot to GRUB I can choose Linux, Windows or floppy. If
I choose Windows I go to the Windows boot manager. Then if I select 2000,
no problem. But if I select 98 all I get is a blank screen with a flashing
cursor (immediately). I then tried to boot to a DOS boot disk and the same
thing happens, a flashing cursor and nothing else, and yes the floppy drive is
reading the disks because I can boot to an NT startup disk and a linux boot
disk. I can see my C: drive in both 2000 and linux and everything seems
to be OK. I think if I could restore the MBR that might do the trick
but I can't do that without booting to DOS. (I think)
I hope somebody out there can help me with this
dilema.
Cheers...... Happy New Year
