why would you run solaris 8 ?
(on an E250+, perhaps.. but why on the low-end / well-supported sparcs?)

about all my unscientific and narrow experience with solaris has shown
me is that solaris is good at threads. since i don't use anything that
thrives on threads (i actively avoid java), i've never found the
selling point.

compared to your average linux distro, solaris is a real pita to
setup/admin/use too (ok rachel, thats probably because i'm extremely
unfamiliar with solaris). you end up having to replace everything with
the gnu versions anyway before you can use the thing..

i found the solaris package management stuff quite poor too, but jill
was trying to convince me otherwise last time we talked and we never
finished that conversation..
