cups or apsfilter both have printer setup type things.
not sure about their status in stable, I'm afraid.
In general, installing unstable things into stable is
best done by getting the source for the thing you want
and compiling it on your system.
apt-get -b source printtool will do this and create a .deb
for you(assuming you have an unstable source in your sources.list).
Disclaimer: unstable can break stuff at random, blah blah blah
