I'm wondering whether you have the CLAMP_MSS option not set? I don't
get those messages at all on my ADSL gateway. My gateway interfaces are
as follows:

eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:A0:CC:54:22:51
          inet addr:*suppressed* Bcast:*suppressed*.255
Mask:255.255.255.0
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
          RX packets:247411 errors:16 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:16
          TX packets:270608 errors:4 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:8
          collisions:737 txqueuelen:100
          Interrupt:11 Base address:0xf800

eth1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:A0:CC:61:55:38
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
          RX packets:465602 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:448542 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:35 txqueuelen:100
          Interrupt:9 Base address:0xf400

ppp0 Link encap:Point-to-Point Protocol
          inet addr:*suppressed* P-t-P:172.31.18.24
Mask:255.255.255.255
UP POINTOPOINT RUNNING NOARP MULTICAST MTU:1492 Metric:1
          RX packets:71486 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:82790 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:10

I have the CLAMP_MSS option set, and don't get any of those messages in
my PPP logs.

I generally find the ADSL service to be quite reasonable, although the
other night there was a routing stuffup somewhere just upstream, and
twice their authentication server in Sydney has died.
