Static ips only in march from bigpond Direct. Direct is the only bigpond arm
to offer static ips on anything. Pacific is offering static ips.

Does it have only an single ethernet port or is there a ATM25 interface as

The standard modem is an Alcatel Speech Touch Home. There is an ethernet and
and AMTF-25 port.

Some people at our office conspire to replace out debian gateway to adsl
with a cisco 827. So far it just hasn't worked at all. The cisco support
hasn't fixed it and telstra hasn't helped. So i don't think cisco is a goer.
There is a Alcatel Speed Touch Home Pro that pacific offer. It apparently
can do NAT and PAT - go check on the alcatel website. The pro basically is a
router. you need a router that is ADSL and PPPOE aware. A linux box makes an
excellent choice. And hey its broadband so you don't need to think its DDR -
HOWEVER the reliability of Telstra's ADSL just sucks at the moment. I'm
lucky to get any connection in linux or windows at home or at work.
Fortunately the PPPOE telstra uses seems to be RFC compliant so thats why
the Linux client works nicely.
