Most likely a result of it being a primary partition. You have to coddle
Windows into thinking it's in a happy, safe environment, otherwise it pukes.
GAG is being helpful, but not doing what you want. :)
The best way of handling multiple OSes is to have each of the dumb-OS system
partitions as primaries, and everything else as logicals. I used to do it
thusly:
Primary partitions............. Extended/Logical......
/dev/hda: [ Win98 ] [ WinNT 4 ] [ Win2K ] * [ Software FAT32 ] [ Linux ] *
Extended/Logical..............................
/dev/hdc: * [ Saved FAT 32 ] [ ext2 ] [ ext2 ] [ etc ] *
That way, each Windows OS would think it's system drive was C:, and all of
them could use the FAT32 D: (Software) and FAT32 E: (Saved) partitions.
Linux - as per usual - didn't give a rats arse.
Of course, now I don't need to use or develop under Windows, I don't need to
leap through all those hoops. Happy, happy, happy!
Merry hard drive repartitioning! ;)
