Whilst I disagree with your comments about the mailing list, the above
comment is something we discussed a while ago.

I was pushing for a combined start to the meeting, and then having the rest
of the meeting devoted to one of the following:

  1) A full meeting, as per normal, or when something of interest to just
about everyone is the topic. Say if Linus dropped in for a coffee.

  3) An advanced talk and a newbie talk, or talks about different topics.

  4) A presentation room and a discussion room.

Obviously, some of these talks would interest particular groups (which you
could extrapolate to mean SIGs).

For a variety of reasons, this wasn't taken up. The first reason would be
the lack of talks! Just about all of the talks we've had recently ('cept
Mike's noweb tutorial, which rocked) were from people outside SLUG, or one
of the committee members... So, being able to have multiple sessions would
require more people to be noisy. ;)

On that note, we'd like to hear from anyone who has a talk again! Perhaps we
could get this going for this month's meeting... Marc Merlin (from SVLUG,
who did the really cool lca diary) said they routinely have queues of people
to do talks!

Okay, so we're not Silicon Valley, but I'm sure we could pull that off. ;)
