-------------------------------------------------------
I've only recently installed linux (RH7.0) on my
computer (should come to the meeting 23rd feb,
right??) So I'm new to linux...But pretty familar with
9x/NT.

I've run into driver problems with cannon printers &
scanners a few times. Such as USB scanners not working
under Win95OSR2.5, cannon BJ4550 drivers crashing with
autocad or needing 256mb RAM to print!

HP scanners seem to be the better ones to buy, as the
drivers (Win32!) seem to be better written. They make
several scanners with both USB and parallel ports.

If you want to buy a decent SCSI card, I bought a
second hand Adaptec 2940 at a computer show from
Computer Parts (02 9482 2582) for $80.00, Expensive,
maybe.. but i understand new ones cost around $150.

You can also buy a Tekram DC315 for $40.00 which would
run a scanner, printer, CD-RW but they do not boot
from some BIOSs

Regards
John
