I am looking for/thinking about buying some machines with RAID. For
varios reasons it need to be a "well known" brand. The two choices at this
time are the DELL 2400 and the IBM 230 series servers. My reservation is
that the drier support for the RAID controllers seems to be distribution
specific, particular with the DELL, suggesting that specific patches are
required. I get the impression if I had problems or moved to a new
distribution that the RAID drivers may be a problem and that it may be
more reliable to just go for a SCSI controller and good backup.
The other option is to buy a separate ICP-vortex RAID controller and
install on one of these machines. ICP-vortex seem to be well supported.
I would be grateful for any suggestions, particularly if anyone has had
problems with any of the IBM / DELL machines and linux.
