        Thanks for the suggestion, I spent tonight doing this, but unfortunately it
didn't work. :( Looking through "make menuconfig", I'd assume the options
already selected are either defaults, or the way it currently is (either
way, they'd be the same because I haven't modified this previously), and
kmod _was_ selected.  I still think you're about the closest I've had so far
with your idea that the network card driver modules are being loaded after
it attempts to bring up the network.  Any other ideas as to how to overcome
this?
