You got it in 1.

Original configuration files was set to 'pentium', no a valid option
on 2.4 so it seems.

After doing another make config, I noticed that it defaulted to
Pentium-II and not waht was in the config file.

Set the damn thing to Pentium-Classic, recompile after a *clean* and
now it works
