yep. DDC is a recent standard to communicate with monitors and get
information straight from the source.

X Imaging Extension. Supposed to be some optimized image routines in the X
server? I don't know if anything actually uses this...

Woah. Old 3D standard from the days of plain old IrisGL (before it became
OpenGL). Like XIE, you're only likely to need this for old legacy
(niche?) apps.

Truetype font renderer. I like to use an external font server daemon
(xfs). That way, the X server doesn't lock up while it's rasterizing
complex fonts. Or have they gone multithreaded (or something) in XF4?

Speedo is an old font renderer. So you only need it if you have speedo
fonts you need.

I've never had trouble with 2.4 kernels.

Do the Nvidia drivers use DRI? I heard somewhere that they had their
own API, but that might have just been a rumour.
