Is it an IDE zip drive? if so its referencing it correctly... you'll find
that zip disks have partitations just like a hard drive..

My old zip drive was say /dev/hdc (atapi ide zipdrive) and when I put in a
disk, it would be mounted as /dev/hdc4, as mounting /dev/hdc would always
failure...

I don't know exactly why this happens, as my theory could be wrong, but this
is just how it was for me :)
