You need to set the _editor_ to wrap like that.  I, personally, use
emacs but my partner is an ex-piner so I set her up with nano which is
a small editor.  Maximum pico-emulation mode is -p.

So her .bash_profile has:

EDITOR="nano -p"
export EDITOR
