No, that would be religious persecution and we don't have a history of
doing that in Australia. You can have private religious belief that you
call "Jedi" and so long as you are willing to state that "Jedi" is your
religion, then so be it.

The ABS guy didn't seemed to fazed by it all. He just said that they
only count established religions and classify all the rest as other.
Religious classification is not used by the government in any way that I
know of, just by the established churches to get a measure of their
current market share.
Basically for Jedi to be classified as a religion, people need to
establish and document a belief system - that is all. So start putting
up those WWW of the Church of Jedi and next thing you know, you can be
come another religious parasite on the taxpayers of Australia (you gotta
love those tax exemptions available to churches).
