that's okay, the "LCP EchoRe[pq]" you're getting above is just a
debugging thing. EchoReq sent by the PPP server as a "Are you
there?" message, and EchoRep is the reply saying "yes, i'm
here". how often this happens can vary depending on set-up to
set-up, but i believe it's usually somewhere between 30 to 120
seconds. see pppd(8) for the technicalities.
anyway, the solution is to get rid of that debug parameter from
your pppd line once you know it's working :)
