Not a scsi system no, ide, but yeah that was one thing I thought might be
the problem. Really shouldn't be, the drive's only a couple of years
old, but who knows... But I've also just had some problems with startx not
working at all, giving a 'perhaps you don't have permission on the console' sort
of error and dropping 'X: PAM unable to resolve symbol: pam_sm_acct_mngt'
into /var/log/messages, which I ended up fixing by a forced reinstall of
the pam rpm. Which also temporarily (and somewhat strangely) fixed the su
problem. I have a feeling that the pam rpm from Mandrake 8 is being weird
here (only installed 8 a few days ago, and no such problems under previous
versions). Perhaps it's not happy with the NVIDIA drivers or something, since
I'm only seeing this in X. Which is fair enough, I mean nobody's happy with
the NVIDIA drivers. But I've gotta have my tuxracer. :-)
