[SLUG] Debian birth pangs

Hi, I've just installed Debian Potato [2.2r2] but although it has 
succeeded overall, there are a few probs ...

        The applications menu has not loaded in Xterm so I have no access 
to mail and other apps.

        Also LILO does not give me access to the other (Win) drive. How 
does one confiugure Debian Lilo
to provide this option ?
