Hi,
Two months ago I was having problems with my ISP,
assumed it was a
Linux/Windows issue, and asked about 'Linux
Friendly ISPs' and received
helpful responses from several kindly
people.
Though I never succeeded in connecting from Linux,
for a couple poor
reasons, I didn't change ISPs, and just surfed the
web from Windows.
Now however, it's gotten under my skin, and I've
decided I'm going to
make this work (darn it!) I've read and tried
a few different troubleshooting
guides which educated me on the procedures, but
didn't quite help me solve
the problem. Hopefully they've helped me
enough to know how to provide
adequate troubleshooting information.
Thanks,
Tom D.
Here's how I interpret (guess) what happens in my
'pppd' command:
1) chat makes the call, creates the basic
connection, and
exits.
2) pppd takes over and does the
username/password
authorization.
3) Netspace sends the 'choose an option'
output. I believe
this is what is messing me up
and I've tried
to deal with it in my chat
script, but now I believe that
this will never succeed because
chat has already finished
its work and
exited.
4) ppd has more sent/rcvd messages which I don't
really
understand, and I am told the
remote IP address.
5) I can 'ping' and 'traceroute' to the remote IP
address, but
Netspace's DNS IP addresses are
'Network is unreachable'.
