What can I say, Google ROCKS !!!!

Some other Redhat User was experiencing the exact same problem
(although under rh5.X)


Solution, reduce line speed from 115000 to 57600 also suggested adding 
ESCAPECHARS=yes to /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-ppp0. I did
both changes and everything work perfectly.

Thanks everyone for the other suggestions.
